Bible Study Guide

Our Story

The Bible Study Guide was born in 1980 after Mary Baker, a mom of four children, couldn’t find a curriculum she felt would help her kids, and her church’s Bible class, learn and understand the Bible. With much study, she began writing a guide through the Bible. In 1981, the first Unit Teacher’s Guide was published. In 1998, after graduating from Harding University with a Bible degree and Abilene Christian University with a masters in Biblical studies, Mary’s oldest son, Brian, began working full-time with the company, in addition to doing ministry work with kids and adults. Working with several writers, the curriculum began to expand to make it easier to effectively teach specific age groups.

While the curriculum has continued to be developed and improved, the core values that caused Mary to start this effort have remained. We exist to help children and adults learn and understand the Bible, while applying it to their own lives.

We believe what Paul said in his letter to Timothy: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that God’s people may be thoroughly equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). We believe that the Bible is the word of God and is our guide for life. We believe in the one true God who exists in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe that God sent his Son Jesus to earth, born of a virgin to live and die as the atoning sacrifice for all who would place their trust in him. We believe that he rose from the dead and ascended to heaven where he sat down at the right hand of God the Father.

We believe that he is present today, through the Holy Spirit, in his church, the body of Christ. We are sometimes asked if we are owned or controlled by a particular denomination or if we teach various church doctrines. We work independently of any church group or denomination and make no attempt to teach our opinion about issues of debate. Our goal is to present the Bible and the Bible alone. We believe that it is through the prayerful study of God’s word that people come to a true and lasting faith. Our prayer is that the Bible becomes an easily used tool in your hands and in the hands of your students, so that, through his word, God might communicate his will for your lives.
